The Film by the Church, "Meet the Mormons" will be released here in Central America June 4 and to run until June 10th

This is the banner I posted to Newsroom for the upcoming showing of Meet the Mormons or Conozca Los Mormones here in Guatemala.

Sad news in the last week.

This will be a short post.  Last week we got news that our Home Teacher, Baldur Schindler from years past in Encinitas passed away from Prostate Cancer.  Today his memorial and on Thursday another in Sandy Utah.  Some of our kids plan to attend.  We think and pray for the Schindler family.
Sunday we found out that a cousin of Al´s passed away from Alzheimer disease December 2014.  We were not informed of it right away as I am sure no one realized how to get in touch with us.  Our family grieves for their family and Connie Conduck, may you rest in peace

May 13 The Family Values award in Guatemala

On Wednesday the 13th Guatemala City saints honored an Attorney General and Head of the Public Ministry Thelma Esperanza Hernandez Aldana who received the 2015 Family Values Award recognition given to national leaders who defend traditional family values and are committed to promoting standards that are consistent with the position of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the family and marriage.

Promoting the participation of women and protection of the rights to maintain integrated family they were valued by the Church.

The prosecutor was recognized with humility and thanked God and said her commitment is to highlight the values of respect, tolerance, honesty and many others.  So to the Chief Public Prosecutor the family is the pillar of society.  Among other things she said "we must recognize that many women suffer violence in silence," but also highlighted the value of those already dared to denounce the violence they experience in their homes.

This award is given each year as part of the celebration of Family Week which this year takes place from 11 to 17 May.  This week activities include workshops, lectures and presentations in 450 congregations of the Church scattered throughout the country and all of Central America.

Another cause for celebration is that "Family Home Evening" that members of the Church performed with is family every Monday night and is one of the topics presented this week meet on this date 100 years have been instituted as world practice to strengthened the family.  From 1915 to date the Church leaders have emphasized the importance of setting aside an hour each week for parents and their children meet together to learn the gospel through the scriptures, try family matters and have fun together.

Church members consider important to honor national leaders that contribute to strengthening the family and deserve recognition, as in the case of Licensed Thelma Aldana Esperanza Hernanadez, Attorney General and Head of the Public Ministry.

They also believe that families who are successful are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work and wholesome recreational activities.

The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. (The Family, a proclamation to the world)

Mothers Day May 10, 2015

A very full day on Sunday.  We went to the Montufar Ward for Sacrament meeting and enjoyed talks and the Primary singing Mother Dear I Love you so.  Led by Lilia Barrera.
After Church we met Elder and Sister Milne and took over some Maternity kits to a local hospital called Roosevelt.  This hospital is government operated for mothers who cannot afford medical services.  The Senior Missionaries have adopted a humanitarian project of gathering donations mostly from the US and make up supply kits for the new mothers.  Often they do not have anything to bring their babies home in or have very little.

Donations came from everywhere but from my daughter and her ward and my aunt in SLC, several suitcases just filled to the brim with baby blankets, onsies, booties, shampoos, lotions, pins, hats etc. were donated.  Sister Kathy Done and myself put together maternity supply kits and have donated to several hospitals.  Myself, Al and Elder and Sister Done and Sister Snedaker delivered kits yesterday to over 40 new mothers.  The new mothers were ever so grateful and happy for the maternity supply kits.

The one sad thing that we found out this day when we saw a man outside in a hall.  We asked if his baby was born today and he said yes and it was a boy.  But the boy passed away.  It was his 7th child.

After we came home we had Elder and Sister Done over for turkey dinner.  We visited for awhile and then received Skype calls from our kids.  A great day.

Went to work on May 8, 2015

Went to work on my Birthday.  It is a great day.

Fun time had by all.  I blew out some candles and some kept coming back on.  We loaded up on chocolate cake.  Later in the evening Al and I went out to my favorite restaurant Spendido.  It has about the best food in Guatemala or anywhere.
